The Walker Family has exited the heavy equipment industry by selling Cecil I. Walker Machinery Co. to the Boyd Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The Boyd Co. is also the owner of The Whayne Supply Co., the Caterpillar Dealer in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

Monty Boyd is the owner of the Boyd Company. A native Nebraskan he is an engineer by education, a former Caterpillar employee and a 24 year executive with The Whayne Supply Co. prior to his purchase of the company.

Whayne Supply is nearly a 100 year old business and one of the largest and best Caterpillar dealers in North America. Through Caterpillar the Walker family found the perfect successor for its customers and employees. Whayne and Walker share many of the same customers in the Central Appalachian natural resources and construction markets. Monty Boyd understands the success and reputation of Walker Machinery resulting from its great employees and efficient systems and Boyd intends to operate Walker just as it is for as long as possible.

The Walker Family has been extremely fortunate through its 60 years. The markets have been good for us. For some the good business years were really great and the bad business years were really hard on the company. The constant, however, has been the excellent employees, customers, and suppliers we were privileged to have worked with and served. They made the good times so wonderful and the bad times so doable.

What Cecil Walker started in meager fashion in 1950 and grew to its incredible heights today, will now continue in a very positive manner under the guidance of Monty Boyd. On behalf of the Walker family we simply and humbly say thanks to all for these wonderful years and our best wishes to Monty Boyd and to all the employees, customers, and suppliers, past and present, who were so much a part of Cecil I. Walker Machinery Co. . . . and, of course, to Caterpillar, Inc. who for 57 years made all this possible and worked just like a partner. So long!
